Agricultural Field Technician
Located in Ponoka, AB
Salary: $25 - $30
Reporting to the Agricultural Manager, you will be responsible for installing, assembling, maintaining, and troubleshooting agricultural systems and equipment such as gating, fencing, stalls, cow comfort systems, feed delivery systems, and ventilation components. This role involves working outdoors at various farm sites, often in changing weather conditions, and may require travel and overnight stays depending on project location. Responsibilities
• Install and service a variety of agricultural equipment and systems (e.g. barn ventilation, gating, stalls, feed systems, cow mats)
• Lead the field crew, providing guidance, training, and mentorship
• Assist in setting team performance goals, tracking progress, and supporting the timely and quality completion of projects
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and installation instructions
• Operate and maintain hand and power tools, including grinders, drills, and saws
• Ensure precise installation using levels, squares, and angle finders in both Metric and Imperial units
• Perform field measurements and layout work with accuracy
• Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts and skid steers when required
• Work at heights and in confined spaces, following all safety protocols
• Identify and resolve installation or mechanical issues in the field
• Communicate clearly with supervisors to provide progress updates and flag potential issues
• Maintain detailed records of work performed and materials used
• Support warranty service and repairs when required

Requirements/Qualifications
• 1–3 years of relevant experience in agricultural equipment installation, construction, or mechanical service (agricultural background preferred)
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and installation manuals
• Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort using power tools and field equipment
• Physically fit and able to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work on feet for extended periods
• Willing and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including travel and overnights when needed
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions on-site
• Strong time management and organizational skills
• Clear communication skills in English (spoken and written)
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license (Class 1 or 3 an asset)
• Equipment certifications (e.g. forklift, skid steer, aerial lift) are an asset or must be willing to obtain
