Our client in Cedar Rapids, IA is looking for a Heavy Equipment Operator!

Position Summary: Join a well-established metal recycling company that has been serving customers for over 125 years! Our client is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to safely operate heavy machinery throughout their scrap processing facility. We're looking for candidates with experience operating front-end loaders, dump trucks, skid steers, material handlers, excavators, or other earth-moving equipment. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in operating equipment safely, and is looking for long-term, stable employment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Safely operate heavy equipment to load and unload trucks, rail cars, and scrap processing equipment.
• Operate equipment including excavators, front-end loaders, material handlers, forklifts, and other earth-moving equipment.
• Complete daily equipment inspections and perform routine maintenance, including checking fluids, lubrication, and safety systems.
• Monitor equipment gauges and operating conditions before and during use.
• Assist with material handling and lifting operations throughout the yard.
• Switch railroad cars as directed by ground personnel.
• Follow startup and shutdown procedures for all equipment.
• Complete required paperwork, inspections, and documentation accurately.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area while following all company safety procedures.
• Plan work efficiently to maximize productivity.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• 3-5 years of heavy equipment operating experience preferred.
• Experience operating front-end loaders, dump trucks, skid steers, material handlers, excavators, forklifts, tractors, or other earth-moving equipment is required.
• Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform routine equipment inspections and basic maintenance.
• Ability to read, write, interpret documents, and communicate effectively.
• Strong work ethic with a history of reliable attendance.
• Team-oriented, safety-conscious, and willing to learn additional equipment and industry-specific skills.

Hours:

• Monday – Friday
• 7:30am – 4:00pm
• Day Search

Pay:

• $22 – 24/hour
