Purchaser (Construction)

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Purchaser with a strong background in construction to support our operations. This role is responsible for reviewing project plans, identifying required materials, generating accurate quotes, and managing the purchasing process from order placement through delivery. The ideal candidate combines construction knowledge with strong organizational and computer skills to ensure materials are ordered correctly and delivered on time.

 

Job Type: Full-Time $20-24/hr, depending on experience
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7am-4pm

Key Responsibilities

  • Review construction plans and specifications to identify required materials such as doors, windows, lumber, and related components
  • Generate accurate quotes based on project requirements
  • Place orders with appropriate vendors and ensure accuracy in product selection
  • Track orders from placement through delivery, ensuring timelines align with project schedules
  • Proactively communicate with vendors regarding order status, shipping, and delivery timelines
  • Follow up to ensure orders arrive on time for shop builds or on-site installation
  • Verify incoming shipments by visually inspecting products to confirm accuracy and quality before acceptance
  • Maintain organized records of order forms, tracking details, and vendor communications
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure materials are delivered and communicated efficiently
  • Identify and resolve ordering issues, including incorrect vendor selection or product discrepancies

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience or background in construction (required)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and material takeoffs
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in ordering materials
  • Proficiency with computers and ordering/tracking systems
  • Experience working with order forms, purchase orders, and vendor communication
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to proactively address issues
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in purchasing, procurement, or material management within construction
  • Familiarity with building materials, including doors, windows, and lumber
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with vendors and internal teams

Important Notes

  • This is not an administrative-only position; candidates must have practical construction knowledge
  • Strong customer service skills are valuable but secondary to construction and purchasing experience
  • Accuracy in vendor selection and ordering is critical to success in this role
