Master Automotive Technician

Location: Vancouver, WA

Pay: 45.00+ DOE

 

Position Summary

The Master Automotive Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide variety of vehicles with a high level of technical expertise. This role serves as a lead technical resource within the shop, performing advanced diagnostics, mentoring junior technicians, ensuring quality workmanship, and helping maintain customer satisfaction through accurate and efficient repairs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced diagnostics on engine, transmission, electrical, steering, suspension, brake, HVAC, and drivability systems.
  • Inspect, test, and repair domestic, import, hybrid, and light-duty diesel vehicles.
  • Utilize computerized diagnostic equipment, scan tools, and manufacturer service information to identify vehicle issues.
  • Complete maintenance and repair work according to manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
  • Verify repairs through road testing and quality control inspections.
  • Accurately document diagnostic findings, repair recommendations, and completed work orders.
  • Mentor and train apprentice and entry-level technicians on proper repair procedures and best practices.
  • Stay current with emerging automotive technologies through ongoing training and certification programs.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 5–10 years of automotive repair experience.
  • ASE Master Technician Certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, computer diagnostics, and advanced repair procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and repair instructions.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to operate diagnostic and repair equipment safely and effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • State inspection and emissions certification (where applicable).
  • Manufacturer certifications (Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, Stellantis, etc.).
  • Experience with hybrid and electric vehicle systems.
  • Leadership or mentoring experience in a dealership or independent repair environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in various positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, fumes, and varying temperatures.
