Dispatcher
Location: North Charleston, SC
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (some flexibility)
Pay: $21–$24 per hour
Status: Full-time
Position Summary
The Dispatcher plays a key role in keeping our terminal running safely and efficiently. This position coordinates drivers, equipment, and customer needs while always prioritizing safety, compliance, and service. The Dispatcher works closely with drivers, the Terminal Manager, and Central Dispatch to ensure on-time deliveries and smooth daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
Dispatch & Operational Support
- Assign loads to qualified drivers and appropriate equipment
- Ensure drivers are properly trained and certified for assigned products and equipment
- Verify tractor and trailer inspections comply with company and government regulations
- Confirm drivers can safely perform assigned duties
- Track driver and equipment location and status throughout the day
- Update dispatch systems as loads progress
- Ensure accurate, timely completion of all paperwork and documentation
Safety Leadership
- Make safety the top priority in all dispatch decisions
- Communicate safety expectations during daily driver interactions
- Review monthly safety initiatives and focus topics with drivers
- Maintain current safety and service posters
- Participate in incident and accident reporting and follow-up
Customer Service & Communication
- Receive customer orders and enter data accurately into dispatch systems
- Assign loads to meet customer specifications and delivery requirements
- Provide drivers with service alerts and delivery instructions
- Notify customers of load status, delays, or service exceptions as needed
- Handle courteous load turndowns and offer alternative scheduling when appropriate
Compliance & Documentation
- Prepare and issue delivery documentation
- Initiate and track service exceptions in dispatch systems
- Maintain familiarity with driver and equipment revenue (as required)
- Prepare tank wash clean-out lists and purchase orders with accuracy
- Participate in the company’s Progressive Discipline (PAR) process when necessary
Team & Leadership Support
- Coordinate with Central Dispatch regarding equipment and driver availability
- Provide required reports to Central Dispatch and Terminal Management
- Assist the Terminal Manager with quality initiatives, training, and investigations
- Serve as acting Terminal Manager when needed
- Participate in the on-call rotation as required
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 2–5 years of trucking industry experience (dispatch experience preferred)
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Comfortable with computer systems and data entry
Physical Requirements
This role is primarily office-based and includes sitting, standing, computer use, and phone communication throughout the day. Occasional inspection activities may require climbing on or into equipment, bending, or working outdoors in seasonal weather conditions. Workdays may occasionally exceed eight hours.
