Salary: $130k-$180k

Location: Bellevue, WA (Hybrid; open to candidates outside Puget Sound)
Pay: $130,000 – $180,000 total compensation

Schedule: Mon–Fri 9:00am–5:00pm
Busy season required (not more than ~60 hours/week; beginning of year busier)

Abilities:

Reasonable technical competence with strong experience in partnership (Form 1065) and individual (Form 1040) tax returns. Ability to independently manage client relationships and engagements is the most critical skill. Produces detailed and accurate work with a strong understanding of tax laws. Demonstrates proactive communication and management skills while working with partners, staff, and clients. Self-motivated and able to work without micromanagement while managing multiple responsibilities and building additional client relationships. Experience with CCH Axcess, CCH ProSystem, and Microsoft Office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Tax planning and compliance work
  • Prepare and review tax returns (Form 1065 and 1040)
  • Manage client relationships and engagements independently
  • Communicate proactively with clients and internal team
  • Work directly with partners, staff, and clients
  • Add and build client relationships
  • Maintain detailed and accurate work

Qualifications:

  • 5–20 years of experience
  • Public accounting experience
  • Strong technical tax knowledge
  • Attention to detail and accuracy

Work Environment:

  • 50 total employees

  • Tax team of 12
  • Recently acquired by Fortis; position open due to growth

  • 7-person office: 6 professional staff, 1 admin (office share)

  • No direct reports

  • Work directly with partners, staff, and clients

  • Client mix:

    • 50% business / 50% individual
    • Construction, tech, real estate, high net worth individuals
  • Does not serve highly regulated industries (public companies, oil & gas)

  • Separate wealth management company (not part of this role)

  • Hybrid requirements:

    • Within 50 miles: 2x per week in office
    • Preference: 3 days/week if within 30 miles of Bellevue
    • Open to remote outside Puget Sound
  • Flexible hours; intentional workload management to avoid burnout

Compensation:

  • Base salary: ~$75,000 (paid every 2 weeks)
  • Managers: ~13% of billings
    • Example provided: $1,300 × 300 hours = ~$47,000
  • Quarterly bonus (paid following quarter; example: end of March paid in June)
  • Discretionary bonus based on firm productivity (~$20K–$30K for manager)
  • Signing bonus (prorated; 6-month ramp period)

OTE:

  • ~$150K average
  • Senior Manager: ~$175K–$200K
