Express Employment Professionals is recruiting for a Student Academic Support Coordinator on behalf of a community-focused workforce development program serving youth and young adults in East St. Louis, IL.

Position Summary

The Student Academic Support Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting participant success in a state-recognized pre-apprenticeship and career readiness program.

This position focuses specifically on academic performance, attendance standards, and successful program completion. The Coordinator implements structured academic interventions to address attendance concerns, academic underperformance, and skill gaps.

While some support services such as tutoring are optional, other interventions—including required make-up hours, mandatory tutoring for specific modules, and post-assessment retakes—are enforced when participants fall below program benchmarks.

Through structured accountability and targeted support, this role helps participants build lifelong skills in responsibility, perseverance, and professional readiness.

Key Responsibilities -Academic Intervention & Support

  • Monitor participant attendance, academic progress, and assessment outcomes
  • Implement required academic supports when participants fall below established benchmarks
  • Coordinate and facilitate tutoring sessions in math, reading, construction math, and workforce modules
  • Oversee required make-up hours for missed coursework
  • Administer and proctor post-assessment retakes as needed

Individual Success Planning

  • Develop individualized Academic Action Plans for participants struggling with attendance or performance
  • Track measurable improvement benchmarks and follow up consistently
  • Communicate expectations clearly while reinforcing accountability and a growth mindset

Data Management & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, tutoring hours, assessment results, and interventions
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure compliance with Illinois Works program requirements
  • Provide regular progress reports to leadership

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with Construction Trainers, Career Coaches, and Workforce Development staff to ensure academic alignment
  • Maintain consistent communication with participants regarding performance expectations
  • Support a culture of high standards balanced with encouragement and mentorship

Skill Development

  • Reinforce foundational skills such as time management, professionalism, study habits, and test-taking strategies
  • Support participants in developing personal accountability and long-term career readiness skills

Required Qualifications

Education:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Workforce Development, or related field preferred (relevant experience will be considered).

Experience:

  • Experience working with youth, young adults, or underserved populations
  • Strong Experience in providing academic tutoring, intervention, or instructional support
  • Familiarity with workforce training programs, pre-apprenticeships, or alternative education settings preferred

Additional Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to balance empathy and accountability
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback while motivating participants
  • Highly organized with strong documentation and follow-through skills
  • Comfortable using data tracking systems, spreadsheets, and digital learning platforms
  • Understanding of how socioeconomic and systemic barriers can impact educational and workforce outcomes

Physical Requirements
