About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join their team in Pascagoula, Mississippi. This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working closely with operations and management teams to drive financial accuracy and business performance.
The Senior Accountant will report directly to the Accounting Manager and play a key role in financial reporting, cost accounting, project analysis, billing, inventory management, and month-end close activities.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, review, and ensure accuracy of customer billings and invoices
Respond to customer inquiries regarding accounts payable and invoicing matters
Process accounts payable transactions, obtain approvals, and prepare payments
Complete barge reports and review vessel logs to support job costing and billing
Assist with credit card reconciliations
Participate in customer meetings and business development initiatives
Perform month-end close activities and account reconciliations
Analyze work-in-progress (WIP) and percent-complete accounting
Prepare and provide cost variance analysis and project financial reporting
Support progressive billing and project forecasting activities
Coordinate and prepare Forecast vs. Actual reporting for projects
Assist with physical inventory counts and inventory flow analysis
Develop and improve costing systems, processes, budgets, and cost center reporting
Ensure compliance with GAAP accounting standards
Collaborate effectively with shipyard management, operations personnel, and finance teams
Complete special projects and other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university (required)
Minimum GPA of 3.0
Candidates without a Bachelor's degree will not be considered
Master's Degree and/or CPA designation preferred
Candidate currently pursuing or planning to pursue CMA designation is a plus
Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles
Previous accounting experience required
QuickBooks experience required
Cost accounting experience in a project-based environment required
Understanding of:
Work-in-Progress (WIP) accounting
Inventory flow and controls
Budgeting and forecasting
Cost variance analysis
Progressive billing
Percent-complete accounting
Technical Skills
Advanced to Expert-level Microsoft Excel skills required
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Ability to analyze large datasets and develop meaningful financial reports
Preferred Experience
Maritime, shipbuilding, or marine industry experience preferred but not required
Experience supporting project-based operations and manufacturing environments
