Assembly Technician

Position Summary

The Assembly Technician is responsible for assembling products according to engineering specifications, quality standards, and production schedules. This position requires strict adherence to safety policies, participation in continuous improvement initiatives, and the ability to perform assembly, inspection, testing, packaging, and preventative maintenance activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Training and Compliance
  • Complete all required onboarding and job-related training programs.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development sessions.
  • Comply with all workplace policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Follow all environmental, health, and safety requirements.

Safety Responsibilities

  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and appropriate work attire.
  • Practice safe lifting and material handling techniques.
  • Inspect cranes, rigging devices, tools, and equipment before use.
  • Operate equipment and tooling safely and correctly.
  • Follow established procedures for handling, storing, and disposing of hazardous materials when applicable.

Production and Labor Reporting

  • Accurately report labor through the designated time-tracking system.
  • Review production schedules and plan daily and weekly work activities.
  • Maintain productivity while meeting quality and safety expectations.

Setup and Preparation

  • Locate parts, materials, tools, and current work instructions.
  • Verify revision levels of drawings and documentation.
  • Prepare assembly workstations and ensure all necessary tooling is available.

Assembly Operations

  • Perform pre-assembly activities, including:
  • Cleaning paint from bored holes.
  • Assembling hardware kits and boxes.
  • Organizing pins, wire harnesses, hoses, and related components.
  • Assemble products according to specifications, drawings, and work instructions.
  • Install mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and related components as required.
  • Install and label wires, hoses, decals, and identification markings.
  • Apply anti-skid materials and other finishing components when required.
  • Perform electrical testing and verification when applicable.
  • Report rejects, nonconforming materials, and rework through established procedures.
  • Document production issues and assembly concerns as required.
  • Inspection, Testing, and Packaging
  • Conduct final inspections to verify product quality and compliance.
  • Perform required product testing, including capacity, hydraulic, electrical, and other standardized tests.
  • Record test results and submit documentation to designated personnel.
  • Make adjustments and corrections as necessary.
  • Clean and prepare finished products for shipment.
  • Package products according to specifications and move completed products to designated locations.
  • Complete all required assembly and quality checklists.

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Submit and implement improvement ideas on a regular basis.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area using 5S principles.
  • Achieve and maintain required 5S audit standards.
  • Participate in cross-training opportunities and learn additional job functions.
  • Monitor and update visual management boards as assigned.

Preventative Maintenance

  • Monitor inventory levels of consumables and supplies.
  • Communicate supply requirements to appropriate personnel.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and maintenance concerns promptly.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Manufacturing, assembly, or production experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, drawings, and specifications.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and assembly equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift throughout the workday.
  • Ability to safely lift and move materials in accordance with safety procedures.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and varying
  • temperatures.
