Housekeeper

Position Summary
The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and staff within a senior living community. This position plays a vital role in supporting resident comfort, health, and quality of life by ensuring resident rooms, common areas, and facility spaces meet established cleanliness and sanitation standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize resident apartments, bathrooms, hallways, offices, dining areas, and common spaces.
  • Perform routine floor care, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and polishing.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste according to established procedures.
  • Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces to maintain infection control standards.
  • Restock housekeeping supplies and report inventory needs to supervisors.
  • Change linens, make beds, and assist with laundry-related duties as assigned.
  • Clean windows, mirrors, furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces to maintain a neat appearance.
  • Follow daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules.
  • Observe and report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or resident concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Properly use cleaning chemicals, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Maintain resident privacy, dignity, and confidentiality while performing assigned duties.
  • Provide courteous and professional service to residents, families, guests, and coworkers.
  • Support special cleaning projects and community events as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous housekeeping, environmental services, hospitality, healthcare, or senior living experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to safely operate housekeeping equipment and handle cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 25–50 pounds and remain active throughout the workday.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of cleaning techniques, sanitation practices, and infection prevention procedures.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, and committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
  • Ability to interact respectfully and compassionately with older adults and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
