Core responsibilities
Site preparation & clean-up: Clear debris, level ground, remove hazards, and maintain a safe, organized work area.
Material handling: Load, unload, and move construction materials, tools, and equipment around the site.
Assisting skilled trades: Support carpenters, electricians, plumbers, drywallers, and other specialists with framing, demolition, installation, and finishing tasks.
Tool use: Operate hand tools (drills, saws, sanders, chisels) and power tools; may also operate small equipment like forklifts, compactors, or hoists.
Structural & temporary work: Set up and dismantle scaffolding, ladders, barricades, and temporary structures.
Demolition & repair: Remove damaged areas, scrape, caulk, apply sealants, and repair surfaces as directed.
Safety compliance: Follow all site safety rules, wear PPE, and report hazards.
Other duties: May assist with traffic control, equipment operation, or light maintenance of tools and equipment.
Typical work environmentGeneral laborers in apartment projects often work outdoors or in unfinished interiors, in varying weather conditions, and may be exposed to dust, noise, and heavy equipment. The role is physically demanding, requiring lifting (often 50+ lbs), bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
