JOB SUMMARY

Express Employment Professionals is hiring a Press Operator on behalf of our client, a Baltimore-area printing and packaging company. The Press Operator is responsible for the daily operation of the printing press, ensuring personal safety while consistently meeting production demands and specifications related to quality, cost, and overall efficiency.

This is a 3rd shift opportunity, running Sunday through Thursday from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, paying $20.00 per hour.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure daily activities are conducted at all times in a safe and proper manner
  • Work overtime as workload, personnel schedules, or customer demands require
  • Maintain the work area in a clean and orderly condition
  • Organize and maintain supply inventories at the press
  • Ensure raw materials are allocated to the job as required and excess materials are returned to inventory
  • Set up equipment, or review previous shift’s setup, based on job specifications to meet job requirements
  • Operate the press and all in-line auxiliary equipment in a safe and effective manner
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the capabilities of the entire press and related auxiliary equipment
  • Perform quality checks prior to production and monitor print quality throughout the run; isolate and identify product that does not meet company and customer standards
  • Provide quality customer samples as required
  • Use and interpret results from Xrite color management software, barcode scanning software, and inspection systems
  • Work with assistants to ensure timely staging of work and efficient handling of materials and supplies
  • Understand all aspects of the job jacket and management information system to ensure accurate, timely documentation and recordkeeping
  • Direct and train the Press Assistant in line with company policies and procedures
  • Work with the Scheduling Coordinator to track, enter, and verify daily completed job quantities
  • Work with the Scheduling Coordinator to schedule jobs that meet customer demands while maintaining production efficiency
  • Develop and maintain positive employee relations and open communication with employees and managers
  • Proactively suggest new and improved methods for daily department activities
  • Communicate daily with the Supervisor on matters that could impact quality, cost, safety, or morale
  • Communicate daily with the Scheduling Coordinator to ensure customer delivery expectations are met
  • Communicate effectively with auxiliary departments regarding matters that could impact production quality
  • Effectively use and understand all material handling equipment
  • Assist in developing written procedures and efficiency improvement / waste reduction programs
  • Assist with preventive maintenance, including repairs and adjustments, on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis
  • Strive to meet company targets related to production efficiency, quality, and waste reduction
  • Consistently perform all required daily duties as outlined by the company, Supervisor, and Plant Manager
