Lead Operator Job Summary: An International company who is the largest producer of hydraulic power units in North America and a major supplier of hydraulic power units, pumps, and valve controls in Europe is looking for a Lead Operator. The Lead Operator is the bridge between the production assembly track and the supervisory track. It is the first leadership tier on the floor. The Lead Operator performs hands-on production work as the primary part of the role while also leading their line, setting the example for quality and pace, helping others, and keeping the line running.

Lead Operator Responsibilities:

  • Perform hands-on production work as the primary part of the role.
  • Lead the assigned line and set the standard for quality, safety, and pace.
  • Cover absent operators on the line as needed
  • Perform routine equipment setup and changeover
  • Work without a supervisor present as needed, executing the work order on hand within the scope of the line.
  • Assign tasks and workstations to employees on the line.
  • Direct the work of the line, typically 5 to 12 employees.
  • Execute the schedule and priorities set by the supervisor; escalate when changes are needed rather than redirecting independently.
  • Resolve minor production problems on the line without escalation, with primary judgment over parts shortages and material handler coordination.
  • Escalate quality stoppages and safety work stoppages immediately to the supervisor; the Lead Operator does not hold independent stop authority at this tier.
  • Report employee conduct issues to the supervisor.
  • Show others proper technique on the job (informal, on-the-line instruction).
  • Serve as an operator a new hire can shadow, where in good standing.
  • Provide verbal shift handoff to the Area Lead or Shift Lead.

Schedule & Pay:

  • 1st shift 6:00am-3:30pm Monday-Friday with overtime as needed
  • When working OT they work 6:00am-4:30pm
  • $20.00/HR

Lead Operator Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of the products and processes on the assigned line.
  • Sound independent judgment within the scope of the line
  • Clear verbal communication, up and across the line
  • Ownership of the line's output; reliable and present
  • Advanced assembly knowledge, tool proficiency, and the ability to troubleshoot common line issues.
  • Typically advances from Assembler 3; demonstrated skill, independence, and readiness rather than time alone
  • Able to stand for a full shift
  • Able to handle parts and use hand and power tools; some parts are heavy (about 25 pounds) and may be oily.
