Quality Improvement Engineer

About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established manufacturer serving high-reliability industries, is seeking a Quality Improvement Engineer to drive continuous improvement initiatives, support quality systems, and enhance manufacturing performance. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact by improving yields, reducing waste, strengthening process capability, and supporting customer and supplier quality initiatives.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with strong analytical skills, experience in manufacturing environments, and a passion for operational excellence.


Position Summary

The Quality Improvement Engineer is responsible for leading continuous improvement efforts, conducting root cause investigations, supporting quality management systems, and collaborating across manufacturing, engineering, quality, and supply chain teams. This position plays a critical role in improving operational performance, ensuring product quality, and supporting customer satisfaction.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of technical education and relevant experience.

  • Minimum of five (5+) years of experience in Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Continuous Improvement, or related roles.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality systems, and data-driven improvement methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering or a technical discipline.

  • Experience in electronics, ceramics, or related manufacturing environments.

  • Experience working in small to mid-sized manufacturing organizations.

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE).

  • Experience in high-reliability industries such as aerospace, defense, medical device, or similar regulated environments.

  • Spanish language proficiency.


Key Responsibilities

Continuous Improvement & Corrective Action

  • Lead initiatives to improve yield, reduce scrap and rework, and enhance process capability (Cp/Cpk).

  • Analyze manufacturing data to identify trends, performance gaps, and improvement opportunities.

  • Conduct failure analysis and structured root cause investigations using methodologies such as 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, and PDCA.

  • Develop, implement, and validate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

  • Establish and sustain process controls to ensure long-term process stability and prevent recurrence of issues.

Quality Engineering & Manufacturing Support

  • Support Material Review Board (MRB) activities, including troubleshooting nonconforming material and determining appropriate dispositions.

  • Provide technical guidance related to engineering drawings, specifications, and measurement systems.

  • Support incoming inspection activities for critical raw materials.

  • Assist production teams in resolving internal quality issues and process challenges.

Customer, Supplier & Quality System Support

  • Support customer complaint investigations and product return analyses.

  • Assist with supplier quality issues affecting production or customer satisfaction.

  • Participate in internal and external audits and support audit readiness activities.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to implement process improvements and ensure alignment between documented procedures and manufacturing execution.

  • Support updates to procedures, work instructions, training materials, and quality documentation.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management principles.

  • Ability to audit manufacturing processes and quality systems.

  • Advanced problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.

  • Experience with statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE).

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and test requirements.

  • Working knowledge of inspection methods and measurement systems.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making abilities.

  • Ability to translate complex data into actionable improvements.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.

  • Effective collaborator with both technical and production teams.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Ability to incorporate business objectives into technical decision-making.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and drive results.

This position requires handling confidential information and may involve access to customer proprietary data and export-controlled documentation. Due to regulatory requirements, candidates must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents.


Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.

  • Frequent use of computers and standard office equipment.

  • Occasional standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

  • Ability to safely work around manufacturing and testing equipment.

  • Capability to communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences.

  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and changing business needs.
