Position Summary

A Journeyman or Master Plumber installs, repairs, maintains, and inspects plumbing systems in residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities. This role ensures water supply, drainage, gas, and sewage systems operate safely and efficiently while complying with applicable plumbing codes, safety standards, and regulations. Master Plumbers may also supervise crews, manage projects, and obtain permits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Installation

• Install water supply, waste, vent, and drainage systems.
• Install fixtures including sinks, toilets, bathtubs, showers, faucets, and water heaters.
• Install gas piping systems and related equipment.
• Assemble, cut, thread, solder, braze, weld, and connect pipes and fittings.
• Install backflow prevention devices and water treatment equipment.
• Read blueprints, specifications, and construction drawings to determine system layouts.

Maintenance and Repairs

• Diagnose and repair plumbing system malfunctions.
• Repair leaks, burst pipes, damaged fixtures, and faulty valves.
• Service water heaters, boilers, pumps, and pressure systems.
• Clear clogged drains and sewer lines using specialized equipment.
• Conduct preventive maintenance inspections.

Testing and Inspection

• Perform pressure testing and leak detection.
• Inspect plumbing systems for code compliance.
• Verify proper operation of installed systems.
• Document inspection results and corrective actions.

Safety and Compliance

• Follow OSHA and company safety requirements.
• Ensure installations comply with local, state, and federal plumbing codes.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Properly handle tools, equipment, and hazardous materials.

Customer Service

• Explain plumbing issues and repair options to customers.
• Provide estimates for labor and materials.
• Respond to emergency service calls.
• Maintain professional relationships with customers and contractors.
