Lead Canopy Technician

$24.00–$30.00/hr DOE | Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire | Fort Worth, TX

 

Express Employment Professionals is seeking an experienced Lead Canopy Technician for a growing aerospace manufacturing operation in Fort Worth. This leadership role is ideal for a skilled technician with hands-on experience in aircraft canopy fabrication, composite manufacturing, bonding, sealing, and Mil-Spec finishing processes. The Lead Canopy Technician will oversee daily workflow, mentor team members, ensure quality standards are met, and perform advanced canopy assembly and installation tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily production activities and prioritize workflow to meet production schedules
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and manufacturing processes
  • Perform adhesive bonding applications and thermal curing processes
  • Complete sanding, grinding, and surface preparation using electric and pneumatic tools
  • Install acrylic transparencies and canopy components to engineering specifications
  • Apply polysulfide sealants and masking/taping techniques for bond lines and paint lines
  • Perform wet composite lay-up and composite repair activities
  • Execute Mil-Spec painting and finishing processes
  • Utilize torque tools, fasteners, and general mechanical assembly techniques
  • Perform manufacturing calculations involving percentages, ratios, and measurements
  • Maintain strict FOD (Foreign Object Debris) awareness and quality standards
  • Train and support technicians while promoting safe work practices

Qualifications

  • Previous aerospace, aviation, composites, or canopy manufacturing experience required
  • Experience leading production teams or serving in a senior technician role preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Knowledge of adhesive bonding, composite lay-up, sealants, and canopy fabrication
  • Experience with Mil-Spec painting processes preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience using torque tools and precision equipment
  • Ability to perform manufacturing math calculations accurately
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
