Installer Technician (Structured Cabling/Fiber)

Pay: $27.00 – $35.00 per hour

Job Type: Full-time

Location: On the road (local travel required)


Overview

We are seeking a skilled Installer Technician to support the installation and maintenance of structured cabling systems for commercial and industrial projects. This role is ideal for someone with experience in fiber optics, low-voltage wiring, and telecommunications infrastructure who enjoys hands-on work and problem-solving in the field.

In this position, you will play a key role in building and maintaining reliable network systems that support communication, data, and security operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems, including fiber optic and copper (Cat5/Cat6)
  • Perform fiber splicing and ensure proper signal strength and minimal loss
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams
  • Troubleshoot and repair cabling and connectivity issues
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment (e.g., testers, meters)
  • Install and support low-voltage systems, including data, voice, and security cabling
  • Ensure all work complies with safety standards and electrical codes (NEC)
  • Maintain organized job sites and accurate project documentation
  • Communicate professionally with customers on project status and expectations

Qualifications

  • Experience in structured cabling, fiber optics, or telecommunications installation
  • Hands-on knowledge of low-voltage wiring systems (Cat5, Cat6, fiber)
  • Ability to read and work from technical drawings and schematics
  • Familiarity with LAN/WAN networks, CCTV, or telephony systems is a plus
  • Experience with fiber splicing and testing equipment preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally for job sites

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

  • Experience with network hardware (Cisco, VoIP systems, etc.)
  • Background in electrical work or IT infrastructure
  • Experience with equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
