Diesel Mechanic

Salary: $38-$45 per hour
Summary:
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. This position performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and other fleet assets while maintaining compliance with company safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
· Perform preventative maintenance services on diesel vehicles and equipment, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, and fluid inspections.
· Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic system issues using diagnostic equipment and troubleshooting techniques.
· Repair and replace engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, suspension components, fuel systems, and other vehicle systems.
· Conduct inspections and identify maintenance needs to prevent equipment failures.
· Complete DOT inspections and ensure vehicles meet federal, state, and company safety requirements.
· Utilize diagnostic software, hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment to perform repairs.
· Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair documentation, and work orders.
· Respond to breakdowns and emergency repair situations as needed.
· Communicate repair recommendations and equipment status to supervisors and fleet management personnel.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
· Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and environmental regulations.
· Assist with inventory management and parts ordering as necessary.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Minimum of 2 years of diesel mechanic experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
· Strong knowledge of diesel engines, vehicle systems, and repair procedures.
· Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues.
· Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
· Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair instructions.
· Basic computer skills for work order and maintenance documentation.
Preferred
· ASE certifications.
· CDL (Commercial Driver's License).
· Experience with medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks.
· Experience with hydraulic systems and heavy equipment.
· Welding and fabrication experience.
Physical Requirements
· Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with assistance.
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
· Ability to work in varying weather conditions and shop environments.
· Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively.
Work Environment
· Shop and field service environments.
· Exposure to noise, moving mechanical parts, grease, oils, chemicals, and varying temperatures.
· Overtime, weekend work, and emergency call-outs may be required based on business needs.
