About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Precision Machinist to join a growing manufacturing team in Ventura. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in producing high-quality, close-tolerance components while working with precision machining equipment and inspection tools.

 

The successful candidate will have strong setup and operation experience on Brown & Sharpe equipment or similar manual machining equipment, along with the ability to read blueprints, perform precision measurements, and maintain strict quality standards.

Primary Responsibilities

Machining Operations

  • Set up and operate Brown & Sharpe machines and other manual machining equipment.
  • Review blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements.
  • Select proper tooling, fixtures, and machine settings for each job.
  • Produce precision components while maintaining tight tolerances and quality specifications.
  • Verify dimensions and product quality throughout the machining process.

Quality Control

  • Perform inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Identify and address dimensional issues or quality concerns.
  • Complete required inspection records and production documentation.
  • Maintain compliance with company quality standards and customer specifications.

Production Support

  • Troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements.
  • Work closely with production, inspection, and engineering teams to meet deadlines and production goals.
  • Assist with tooling changes, machine adjustments, and setup optimization.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency and quality.

Team & Safety

  • Follow all workplace safety procedures and manufacturing best practices.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Assist in training and supporting less experienced machinists when needed.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment focused on quality and productivity.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 2 years of machining experience operating Brown & Sharpe equipment or similar manual machining machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Experience working with precision measuring instruments.
  • Strong understanding of shop mathematics, including geometry and basic trigonometry.
  • Knowledge of machining practices, tooling selection, and material characteristics.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred

  • Experience with jig borers, grinders, lathes, mills, or other precision machining equipment.
  • Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  • Experience performing first article inspections.
  • Basic machine maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
  • Aerospace, defense, medical device, or high-precision manufacturing experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Strong attention to detail and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to work safely around industrial machinery and equipment.
