Job Summary
As a Senior Accountant for our manufacturing company, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, and supporting operational accounting processes within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, inventory, purchasing, and finance and contribute to the overall financial health and success of the organization. Your expertise in accounting principles, ERP systems, advanced Excel, attention to detail, and analytical problem-solving will be essential in ensuring financial accuracy, reporting integrity, and operational support during a key transition period. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in a deadline driven environment, managing competing priorities, and ramping up quickly during a transition period with compressed onboarding timelines.
Responsibilities
1. General Accounting
- Prepare and review journal entries, ensuring accurate recording of financial transactions
- Maintain the general ledger and sub-ledgers, reconciling accounts and resolving discrepancies
- Support and participate in month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules
- Perform bank reconciliations and account analysis activities
2. Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Process vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy and adherence to payment terms
- Coordinate with purchasing and procurement teams to verify invoices and resolve billing discrepancies
- Monitor customer accounts, process incoming payments, and address outstanding issues
- Support oversight and accuracy of operational accounting transactions
3. Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
- Analyze financial data and provide insights regarding trends, variances, and operational performance
- Prepare ad hoc financial reports as requested by management
- Support operational reporting and variance analysis related to manufacturing and inventory activities
4. Budgeting and Forecasting
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes, working closely with finance and department leaders
- Assist in preparation of budget templates, data collection, and analysis
- Monitor budget performance and support variance analysis activities
- Prepare and update cash flow forecasts
5. Fixed Assets and Inventory
- Maintain fixed asset records, including acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation calculations
- Partner closely with operations and inventory teams to support accurate inventory valuation, reconciliations, reporting, and discrepancy resolution within a manufacturing environment
- Perform periodic inventory reconciliations and assist in physical inventory count processes
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and support resolution activities as required
6. Compliance and Audit
- Support compliance with accounting standards, policies, and internal controls
- Assist internal and external audit activities by preparing documentation and supporting schedules
- Support implementation and maintenance of operational accounting controls
7. Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency
- Participate in system implementations or upgrades related to accounting and financial reporting
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process changes and enhance productivity
- Support ERP and operational accounting process improvements where applicable
- Review and validate data and reports, reconcile discrepancies, and collaborate with stakeholders to resolve issues and improve data accuracy
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment
- Strong full-cycle accounting and month-end close experience
- Manufacturing accounting and inventory accounting experience strongly preferred
- Strong ERP environment experience and comfort operating within systems-driven accounting processes
- Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, advanced formulas/functions, and experience working with large datasets
- Power BI exposure considered an asset
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capability
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven manufacturing environment
- Experience with inventory reconciliations and fixed asset management preferred
