POSITION OVERVIEW

 

Express Employment Professionals – Timonium, MD is recruiting on behalf of a well-established, locally owned security services firm in the Baltimore area. Our client is seeking a skilled and dependable Low Voltage Technician to join their field services team. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, programming, service, and repair of a wide range of electronic security and access control systems for residential, commercial, and government clients throughout the Baltimore metro area and surrounding region. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, configure, program, and commission low voltage security systems including access control, video surveillance (CCTV/IP cameras), alarm systems, intercoms, and card readers at residential and commercial sites.
  • Perform service calls, diagnostic troubleshooting, and repair of existing security and electronic locking systems, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Install and service electronic and electromechanical locking hardware including electric strikes, magnetic locks, door controllers, and panic/exit devices in coordination with physical security upgrades.
  • Run, terminate, and label low voltage cabling (Cat5e/Cat6, coax, 18/2, 22/4, fiber) through walls, conduit, and ceilings in accordance with NEC low voltage guidelines and project specifications.
  • Perform system programming and testing of access control panels, alarm control boards, DVR/NVR recorders, and IP-based security platforms to ensure all components operate correctly upon completion.
  • Conduct site surveys and pre-installation walkthroughs to assess scope, identify potential challenges, and ensure appropriate materials and equipment are staged for each job.
  • Complete all required job documentation including work orders, service tickets, time logs, material usage reports, and as-built notes upon completion of each assignment.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers throughout each job, providing system orientation and basic user training upon installation completion.
  • Maintain company vehicle, tools, and equipment inventory in clean, organized, and operational condition; report any maintenance needs to the service manager promptly.
  • Coordinate with the dispatch and scheduling team to manage daily work orders efficiently and communicate any delays, changes, or on-site issues in real time.
  • Follow all OSHA safety guidelines, company safety policies, and site-specific safety requirements on every job, including proper use of PPE, ladders, and lift equipment.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours emergency service dispatch as required.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management in support of company operations and customer service goals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience installing or servicing low voltage electronic security systems (access control, CCTV, intrusion alarm, or related systems).
  • Working knowledge of low voltage cabling, termination, and labeling practices for security and data applications.
  • Familiarity with access control platforms (e.g., Lenel, Software House, Honeywell, Bosch, Allegion, HID, or similar) and IP video systems (Axis, Hanwha, Milestone, or similar).
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, floor plans, and technical specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve system failures efficiently in the field.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to operate a company vehicle.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights using ladders and lifts, and perform physical tasks in confined spaces or outdoor environments.
  • Professional appearance and strong customer-facing communication skills.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening (required for government and commercial site access).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Maryland Low Voltage Contractor License or NICET certification (or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe).
  • Experience with electronic safe and vault technology, locksmith services, or physical security hardware.
  • Knowledge of door hardware, electrified locking devices, and access-controlled door assemblies.
  • Experience working on government, healthcare, education, or financial institution sites.
  • Familiarity with NEC Article 725 (Class 2 and Class 3 circuits) and local building code requirements for low voltage installations.
  • Prior military, law enforcement, or corrections background a plus.
