The Design Engineer will be responsible for carrying out the duties of the Engineering department, including design, research, prototyping, engineering documentation, estimating, and process improvement. The Design Engineer reports directly to the Engineering Manager and collaborates with sales, clients, other design engineers, purchasing, and production teams on design projects. The incumbent will also assist with any other technical tasks as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
• Collaborate with sales and the customer base to collect necessary input to formulate product designs
• Create output representing product design, including 3-D models, prototypes, written descriptions, presentations, and engineering drawings
• Plan and lead design reviews at appropriate stages of product development
• Document and communicate actions resulting from design reviews
• Develop, document, and execute changes to designs
• Perform First Article inspections for all prototypes
• Assist with First Article Inspection Reports, documentation, and product testing
• Perform product testing for the Engineering Department
• Fabricate prototypes for customers
• Prepare and ship various sample orders
• Assist in the inspection and evaluation of customer returns
• Complete summary reports as requested
• Comply with all safety policies and work safely at all times
• Assist with any other tasks as requested by management
The Design Engineer is expected to design in accordance with industry standard practices, maintaining accuracy and quality across all engineering documentation, prototypes, and customer deliverables.
Education & Experience
• B.S. degree in packaging, industrial, mechanical, electrical, or process engineering preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered
• Minimum 2 years of hands-on engineering and design experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
Technical Skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Pro-E
• Broad technical and analytical engineering experience as applied to product design, manufacturing, and process development
• Functional understanding of administrative functions including accounting and human resources
