CNC Machinist – 2nd Shift
Location: Round Rock, TX
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 2nd Shift | 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM
Pay: Up to $33.00/hour, based on experience
A growing precision manufacturing company in Round Rock is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to join its 2nd shift team. This role is a strong fit for a skilled machinist who enjoys close-tolerance work, complex parts, problem-solving, and working in a clean, high-quality manufacturing environment.
This company supports highly regulated industries, including semiconductor and advanced technology manufacturing, and produces precision stainless-steel components where quality, accuracy, and consistency are critical.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC mills, conventional mills, lathes, vertical mills, and horizontal turning lathes.
- Machine complex precision parts with tight tolerances, including angled surfaces, pockets, steps, and features on multiple planes.
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and work instructions to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements.
- Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions on materials as needed for machining.
- Determine proper tooling, speeds, feeds, offsets, and coolant flow to optimize machine performance.
- Perform tool changes, calculate tool offsets, and monitor tool wear.
- Troubleshoot machine code, programs, and machining issues as needed.
- Inspect parts using calipers, protractors, height gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
- Inspect and replace machine consumables and evaluate machine operation to ensure performance standards are met.
- Collaborate with engineering on fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and process improvements.
- Support quality, safety, 6S, lean manufacturing, and on-time delivery goals.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Assist team members and contribute to department standards and continuous improvement efforts.
- Perform other related machining and manufacturing tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5+ years of machining experience required.
- CNC setup and operation experience required.
- Programming knowledge and ability to troubleshoot machine code required.
- Experience working with tight tolerances, typically +/- .001 or less.
- Strong blueprint reading skills required; GD&T knowledge preferred.
- Ability to use precision inspection tools such as calipers, height gauges, protractors, and related measuring equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to solve complex manufacturing or product-related issues.
- Ability to perform basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, and trigonometry concepts.
- Intermediate computer skills for manufacturing systems and documentation.
- Working knowledge of 6S and lean manufacturing principles preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively, follow written and verbal instructions, and work well in a team environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Technical school, machining, welding, or related certification preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
