About the Role
As part of the Food Services team, the Clinical Dietitian provides nutrition care that supports residents' health, well-being, and quality of life. Working independently and alongside interdisciplinary teams, you will assess nutritional needs, develop care plans, and ensure residents receive safe, person-centered, and culturally appropriate nutrition support across both sites.

 

Role Summary
The Clinical Dietitian provides nutrition care for residents in a continuing care setting, helping maintain their health, well-being, and quality of life. They work closely with residents, families, physicians, care teams, and food service staff to develop and monitor nutrition plans and ensure accurate documentation.
Key Responsibilities
• Assess residents' nutritional needs and create individualized nutrition care plans.
• Work with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team to support resident health and quality of life.
• Consider cultural, religious, and personal food preferences when planning care.
• Document and communicate nutrition care plans to care and food service teams.
• Support resident safety through therapeutic diets and modified texture diets.
• Conduct nutrition-related assessments, including:
o Admission/intake assessments
o Weight management
o Dysphagia (swallowing difficulties)
o Wound healing
• Participate in care conferences and clinical team meetings.
• Provide nutrition education and support to residents, families, and caregivers.
• Follow facility policies, procedures, and resident-centered care practices.
• Collaborate with Food Services to maintain nutrition standards and develop menus.
• Recommend improvements to resident care, food services, and department operations.
• Work within departmental budgets.
• Support quality improvement initiatives and maintain current knowledge of dietetic practices.
• Maintain professional standards and comply with workplace safety requirements.
• Follow regulations set by the College of Dietitians of British Columbia and the Protection of Persons in Care Act.
• Mentor dietetic interns when required and workload permits.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or Dietetics (4-year accredited program).
• Completion of an accredited Dietetic Internship Program.
• Current Temporary or Full Registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.
• Strong communication, organization, leadership, and time-management skills.
• Food Safety Certificate.
• Membership with Dietitians of Canada is preferred.
• Experience in continuing care/long-term care is an asset.
• Experience with dysphagia assessment and management is an asset.


Work Environment
• Work involves moving between resident care areas, patient rooms, kitchens, and food service areas in a busy healthcare environment.
