LOCAL MANUFACTURING COMPANY IN BENICIA IS SEEKING A SENIOR PURCHASING BUYER/PLANNER. THIS IS A LONG-TERM OPPORTUNITY AND THE PAY IS $40.00 - $50.00 AN HOUR DOE.

Position Summary

The Senior Purchasing Buyer/Planner is responsible for managing the procurement of materials, components, and services required to support production and business operations. This role develops purchasing strategies, maintains optimal inventory levels, coordinates supply chain activities, and collaborates with internal departments and suppliers to ensure on-time delivery, cost efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Purchasing & Procurement

  • Source, negotiate, and purchase materials, components, and services to meet production and operational requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure quality, cost, and delivery expectations are achieved.
  • Analyze supplier performance and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, and service agreements to maximize value.
  • Identify and qualify new suppliers to support business growth and risk mitigation.

Planning & Inventory Management

  • Create and manage purchasing and inventory plans based on forecasts, production schedules, and customer demand.
  • Monitor inventory levels and adjust purchasing strategies to prevent shortages or excess inventory.
  • Analyze material requirements and generate purchase orders to support production schedules.
  • Maintain accurate planning parameters, lead times, safety stock levels, and reorder points within ERP/MRP systems.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, sales, and operations teams to align material availability with business needs.

Supply Chain Coordination

  • Track supplier deliveries and proactively address potential delays or supply disruptions.
  • Expedite critical materials when necessary to maintain production schedules.
  • Manage supplier communications regarding forecasts, order changes, and delivery requirements.
  • Support inventory accuracy initiatives through cycle counts and reconciliation activities.

Analysis & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor purchasing metrics including cost savings, supplier performance, inventory turns, and on-time delivery.
  • Analyze market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supply chain risks.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for management regarding purchasing and inventory performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of purchasing, procurement, buying, planning, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory control, MRP/ERP systems, and supply chain best practices.
  • Experience negotiating supplier contracts and pricing agreements.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • APICS/ASCM CPIM, CSCP, CPSM, or related certification.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of international sourcing, logistics, and import/export processes.
