Position Summary

The Senior Buyer performs purchasing activities in support of production and operational requirements within an electronics manufacturing environment. This role works closely with Account Managers and/or the Director of Supply Chain to manage procurement deliverables in alignment with company standards and supply chain objectives.

Success in this role requires a proactive approach to ensuring continuity and quality of materials, maintaining optimal inventory levels, and monitoring cost performance. The Senior Buyer must demonstrate strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Send Purchase Order Action (POA) reports to suppliers and manage PO actions on a weekly basis
  • Generate and manage ERP purchase order releases for production and new product launches
  • Monitor, track, and communicate purchase order status updates to internal stakeholders
  • Maintain and set up parts in ERP systems, including supplier details, MPN, MOQ/MPQ, lead time, NCNR, and related data
  • Work with Materials Planners to obtain customer authorization on pricing, NCNR, premium freight, and material liability
  • Source materials for shortages to minimize delivery impact while reducing excess inventory and unfavorable cost variances
  • Manage material escalations with Commodity Management and suppliers
  • Oversee Material Review Board (MRB) activities related to quality issues, receiving discrepancies, ECOs, and NCRs, including supplier returns
  • Execute contract changes and supplier adjustments
  • Implement PFEP (Plan for Every Part) and VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory) changes as directed by Supply Chain leadership
  • Ensure compliance with supplier approval, qualification, and performance review processes
  • Manage supplier relationships including selection, monitoring, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support inventory optimization and VMI programs
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives and supplier negotiations for assigned categories
  • Collaborate with Materials Planning to support inventory reduction strategies
  • Resolve invoice discrepancies in collaboration with Finance, Suppliers, and Commodity Managers
  • Escalate credit hold and payment term issues affecting supply continuity
  • Participate in UAT testing for new tools and systems; act as a superuser when required
  • Mentor, coach, and support junior buyers as needed
  • Lead small projects when required
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Supply Chain, Inventory, Purchasing, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Supply Chain or Procurement
  • APICS or PMAC certification (completed or in progress) preferred
  • Experience in Lean Supply Chain environments is an asset
  • Strong ERP system experience within a supply chain setting (purchasing and inventory modules)
  • Proficient business English communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong computer proficiency, including Windows-based systems and related software
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (v-lookups, pivot tables, filters, data analysis)
  • Strong organizational and administrative abilities
  • Self-motivated team player with the ability to work under pressure
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively
