Position Summary:

The Production Manager is responsible for leading, planning, directing, and coordinating all manufacturing operations within the facility, including Coating, Slitting, Packaging, and Maintenance departments. This position ensures safe, efficient, cost-effective production while maintaining the highest standards of quality, customer satisfaction, employee development, and operational performance.

The Production Manager oversees daily production activities, staffing, scheduling, equipment utilization, inventory coordination, maintenance planning, budgeting, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role serves as a key member of the leadership team and is responsible for achieving operational goals related to productivity, quality, safety, on-time delivery, waste reduction, and profitability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Production Operations Management

  • Direct and oversee daily manufacturing operations across Coating, Slitting, Packaging, and Maintenance departments.
  • Ensure production schedules are achieved while maintaining quality, efficiency, and safety standards.
  • Monitor workflow, labor utilization, machine performance, downtime, and production output.
  • Coordinate staffing and production priorities to meet customer demand and delivery requirements.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and disruptions.
  • Maintain accurate production records and performance reporting.

Production Planning and Scheduling

  • Develop daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules based on customer orders, inventory levels, and production capacity.
  • Coordinate production priorities with Sales, Customer Service, Purchasing, Warehouse, and Shipping departments.
  • Optimize labor and equipment scheduling to maximize productivity and minimize overtime.

Quality Management

  • Ensure compliance with company quality standards, customer specifications, and Total Quality Management System requirements.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance personnel to investigate product defects, non-conformances, and customer complaints.
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions to improve product consistency and reduce waste.
  • Ensure implementation and compliance of work instructions, training requirements, and company procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement of manufacturing and inspection processes.

Safety and Regulatory Compliance

  • Promote and maintain a strong culture of workplace safety throughout the facility.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and company safety policies.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals, coatings, solvents, and other hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Leadership and Employee Development

  • Supervise Production Supervisors, Leads, Machine Operators, Packaging Personnel, Maintenance Staff, and Production Coordinators.
  • Manage employee performance, coaching, training, disciplinary actions, and professional development.
  • Review and approve employee timecards and attendance records.
  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, workforce planning, and succession planning.
  • Foster teamwork, employee engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Equipment and Maintenance Management

  • Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities with maintenance personnel.
  • Monitor equipment performance, downtime trends, and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Support capital equipment upgrades, facility improvements, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate new manufacturing technologies, equipment, and production methods to improve efficiency and quality.

Inventory and Materials Management

  • Monitor inventory levels and consumption of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing and Warehouse personnel to ensure material availability.
  • Participate in annual physical inventory and cycle count activities.
  • Improve inventory accuracy and minimize material waste.

Budgeting and Cost Management

  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets for Production and Maintenance departments.
  • Monitor manufacturing costs, including:
    • Labor
    • Overtime
    • Raw Materials
    • Scrap and Waste
    • Maintenance Expenses
    • Supplies and Consumables
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiency improvements.
  • Analyze production metrics and financial data to improve profitability.
  • Assist with annual forecasting, capital expenditure planning, and budget preparation.
  • Approve departmental expenditures within authorized spending limits.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Reduce setup times, downtime, scrap, waste, and process inefficiencies.
  • Implement standardized work procedures and best practices.
  • Track, analyze, and report key operational performance indicators.
  • Drive productivity improvements, efficiency gains, and cost reductions.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Respond to after-hours operational issues and production emergencies as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with vendors, suppliers, and customers to support business objectives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by executive leadership.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Operations Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and manufacturing leadership experience may be considered.

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of manufacturing leadership and supervisory experience required.
  • Experience in coating, converting, slitting, printing, flexible films, thermal transfer ribbon manufacturing, or related manufacturing processes preferred.
  • Experience managing production teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Working Conditions

  • Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to moving machinery, moderate noise, chemicals, solvents, dust, and industrial equipment.
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, twisting, and climbing stairs or ladders.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 60 pounds occasionally.
  • Occasional close-up visual inspection of products and materials.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
