Knife Department Babbit Pouring & Grinding

Express is looking for a reliable Babbitt Pouring & Grinding Technician for one of our great Quitman clients

 JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Babbitt Pouring & Grinding Technician is responsible for pouring, finishing, and machining nickel babbitt for industrial knife components used in mill operations. This role ensures proper bonding, dimensional accuracy, and surface finish to support safe, efficient production performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Babbitt Pouring

• Pour babbitt into knife assemblies while maintaining quality and consistency
• Monitor cooling and solidification to prevent defects (voids, cracks, poor bonding)
• Follow all safety procedures related to molten metal handling

Grinding & Finishing

• Grind poured babbitt surfaces to precise tolerances and specifications
• Operate grinding equipment to achieve proper fit, alignment, and finish
• Inspect finished parts for smoothness, thickness, and uniformity
• Rework or repair defects as needed

Equipment & Maintenance

• Maintain and clean pouring pots, molds, and grinding equipment
• Ensure tools and machines are in safe operating condition
• Report equipment issues or irregularities promptly

Schedule:  Monday-Friday-

Qualifications:

• Mechanical aptitude and hands-on industrial experience preferred
• Ability to read measurements and maintain tight tolerances
• Strong attention to detail and quality control
• Ability to work in a hot, physically demanding environment
• Willingness to follow strict safety standards

 

Physical Requirements:

• Industrial mill setting with exposure to heat, noise, and heavy equipment
• Regular lifting, standing, and manual work required
