Technical Writer (Contract)

Location: Radford, VA (Onsite/Hybrid as needed)
Contract Length: 3 Months
Pay Rate: $50.00 per hour

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Technical Writer to support the creation, revision, and maintenance of technical documentation for advanced motion control, automation, and engineering products. The ideal candidate will work closely with engineering, product management, and technical teams to develop clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation for customers, partners, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, edit, and maintain technical documentation, including user manuals, installation guides, operating procedures, technical specifications, and application notes.
• Collaborate with engineers, product specialists, and subject matter experts to gather and verify technical information.
• Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and accessible content for various audiences.
• Review and update existing documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with company standards.
• Organize and manage document revisions, version control, and publishing processes.
• Develop diagrams, illustrations, screenshots, and other visual aids to support written documentation.
• Ensure documentation aligns with product updates, engineering changes, and customer requirements.
• Assist in establishing and maintaining documentation templates, style guides, and best practices.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of technical writing experience in a manufacturing, engineering, automation, electronics, or industrial environment.
• Excellent written, editing, and proofreading skills.
• Ability to understand and communicate complex technical information.
• Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite and document management systems.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred

• Experience documenting industrial automation, motion control systems, electronics, or electromechanical products.
• Familiarity with CAD drawings, engineering schematics, and technical specifications.
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, MadCap Flare, FrameMaker, or similar technical publishing tools.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering documentation standards.
