Position Summary
The Inside Sales Engineer is a technically skilled sales professional responsible for driving revenue growth and deepening customer relationships through expert product application support, technical quoting, and consultative selling of Company’ full line of Solid-State AC Motor Controls, Soft Starters, and Motor Protection products. This role combines the technical depth to understand and specify motor control solutions with the commercial acumen to identify opportunities, develop accounts, and close business — working closely with distributors, OEM partners, system integrators, and end users across Company’ key industries. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in motor controls, drives, or industrial power electronics and thrives at the intersection of engineering and sales.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Technical Sales & Application Support
- Serve as the primary technical sales resource for assigned accounts, providing expert product selection, application guidance, and system recommendations for Company’ motor control and soft starter product lines.
- Analyze customer application requirements — including motor horsepower, voltage, load type, duty cycle, and environmental conditions — to recommend the optimal Company product solution.
- Prepare detailed technical and commercial quotations for standard, modified, and custom motor control products; review specifications, drawings, and technical documents to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Respond to customer requests for information (RFIs), requests for quotation (RFQs), and technical inquiries via phone and email with speed and precision.
- Support customers with product sizing, parameter configuration, troubleshooting, and application problem-solving for soft starters, reduced voltage starters, and motor protection products.
- Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support; escalate complex field issues to engineering or product management as needed.
Account Development & Revenue Growth
- Manage and grow a defined portfolio of distributors, OEMs, and direct accounts with an equal focus on retaining existing business and developing new opportunities.
- Proactively identify and pursue new sales opportunities within assigned accounts and target markets including HVAC, water/wastewater, oil and gas, mining, agriculture, and industrial automation.
- Partner with Outside Territory Sales Managers and Manufacturer’s Representatives to develop account strategies, support customer visits, and advance opportunities through the sales pipeline.
- Follow up on inbound leads, marketing campaigns, trade show contacts, and distributor referrals to qualify and convert opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong long-term relationships with key contacts including engineers, procurement personnel, and executive sponsors at target accounts.
- Track open opportunities, quotation activity, and pipeline status in the CRM system; provide accurate forecasting to sales management.
Product & Market Expertise
- Develop and maintain deep product knowledge across Company’ full catalog including Solid-State Soft Starters, reduced voltage starters, motor protection relays, and accessories.
- Stay current on competitive products, pricing, and market trends in the motor control and soft starter industry; communicate competitive intelligence to sales and product management teams.
- Support product management with voice-of-customer (VOC) feedback on product gaps, feature requests, and application trends observed in the field.
- Represent Company professionally in customer-facing technical presentations, webinars, and training sessions for distributors and end users.
Order Management & Customer Experience
- Process and manage customer orders from quotation through delivery; coordinate with production planning, engineering, and shipping to meet customer commitments.
- Monitor open orders and proactively communicate lead times, delays, and status updates to customers and sales partners.
- Process order modifications, return merchandise authorizations (RMAs), and escalations in coordination with operations and customer service.
- Maintain accurate records of quotes, orders, customer contacts, and opportunity activity in the CRM and ERP systems.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of technical education and industry experience.
- 3–5 years of experience in inside sales, application engineering, or technical sales support in the motor controls, drives, soft starters, or industrial automation industry.
- Solid working knowledge of AC motor control principles including reduced voltage starting, solid-state soft starting, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and motor protection.
