Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Purchasing Agent with strong experience in manufacturing environments and working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems. This role is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing inventory of mechanical parts, components, and raw materials—particularly steel and other commodities—while ensuring production needs are met efficiently and cost-effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage purchasing activities for mechanical parts, components, and raw materials (including steel and commodities)
• Utilize MRP/ERP systems to plan, track, and execute purchase orders based on production needs
• Interpret bills of materials (BOMs) to determine required parts and quantities
• Perform accurate parts counting, verification, and inventory reconciliation
• Coordinate with production, engineering, and warehouse teams to ensure material availability
• Source suppliers, request quotes, and negotiate pricing and delivery terms
• Monitor inventory levels and proactively prevent shortages or excess stock
• Process purchase orders and maintain accurate purchasing records
• Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies and budget guidelines

Qualifications

• Prior experience in a manufacturing or production environment required
• Hands-on experience with MRP and/or ERP systems (required)
• Strong understanding of mechanical parts, components, and industrial materials
• Ability to read and interpret BOMs and technical specifications
• Experience purchasing steel or other industrial commodities preferred
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Proficient with basic computer systems and data entry

Compensation & Schedule

• $20–$24 per hour depending on experience
• Full-time, Monday through Friday
• 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM schedule
