Express Employment Professionals is currently recruiting for a Technical Specialist – Trade Compliance on behalf of a respected client in the Katy, TX area. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with experience in global trade, compliance, and cross-functional collaboration.
Position Overview
The Technical Specialist serves as a key liaison between Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Logistics, and Global Trade Services. This role ensures that all import/export activities meet applicable global trade regulations while maintaining accurate compliance data and supporting efficient global product movement.
You will play a critical role in risk mitigation, classification accuracy, and data integrity—especially as it relates to new product development and design changes.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate product classifications using HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) and ECCN (Export Control Classification Numbers)
- Ensure compliance with U.S. and international trade regulations, including EAR and ITAR (as applicable)
- Collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Operations to support new product introductions (NPI) and design changes
- Maintain and manage compliance data within jurisdiction and classification systems
- Uphold internal compliance procedures and Quality Management System (QMS) standards
- Act as an interface between technical experts and trade compliance teams for accurate material classification
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within trade compliance processes
- Assist in maintaining data accuracy within ERP and compliance systems
Required Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, International Business, Engineering, Logistics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 1+ year of experience in trade compliance, customs, or global logistics
- Working knowledge of:
- Import/export regulations
- HTS classification
- Country-of-origin rules
- Experience with ERP systems and compliance databases
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
- Ability to work within an ITAR-regulated environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with REACH and RoHS regulations
- Exposure to environmental compliance and material restriction requirements
- Familiarity with:
- Material declarations
- Supplier compliance documentation
- Substance data collection
- Understanding of how environmental compliance integrates with trade compliance
- Experience supporting compliance during NPI and engineering changes
