Job Summary
We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance team in a manufacturing environment. This role is heavily focused on job costing, cost analysis, and leading the month-end close process.
The ideal candidate will play a key role in tracking, analyzing, and optimizing job and product-level costs, while ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. This position works closely with operations to identify cost drivers, improve margins, and uncover cost-saving opportunities across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
- Lead and execute the monthly close process, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Analyze close variances and provide clear insight into financial performance
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including inventory, WIP, and cost of goods sold
- Continuously improve close processes for efficiency and accuracy
Job Costing & Cost Accounting (Primary Focus)
- Own and manage the job costing system, ensuring accurate tracking of labor, materials, and overhead
- Analyze actual vs. standard costs and investigate variances
- Identify and evaluate key cost drivers such as labor efficiency, material usage, waste, and overhead allocation
- Perform detailed cost and profitability analysis by job, product line, and customer
- Partner with operations to improve cost visibility and accountability
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, process improvement, and margin enhancement
- Monitor and maintain accurate inventory valuation, including raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
- Ensure consistent application of costing methodologies (standard costing, absorption costing, etc.)
Financial Analysis & Business Support
- Perform variance analysis and deliver actionable insights
- Support budgeting and forecasting with a focus on cost trends and operational drivers
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support data-driven decision-making
- Assist with pricing and margin analysis initiatives
Accounting Operations & Compliance
- Support AP and AR processes as needed
- Maintain and enforce internal controls and accounting policies
- Assist with external audits and tax-related activities
- Participate in process improvements and system enhancements
- Mentor and support junior accounting staff
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of accounting experience with strong emphasis in manufacturing cost accounting and job costing
- Proven experience managing or contributing to month-end close processes
- Deep understanding of cost accounting, inventory accounting, and variance analysis
- Experience identifying cost drivers, inefficiencies, and cost-saving opportunities
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Strong communication skills and ability to partner with operations
