The Lead Farm Hand is responsible for supporting daily farm operations while supervising farm labor staff and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to high quality standards. This role combines hands-on agricultural work with leadership responsibilities, including coordinating daily tasks, maintaining equipment, monitoring livestock or crops, and assisting with overall farm productivity.

Key Responsibilities

Farm Operations

  • Perform and oversee daily farm activities including planting, harvesting, feeding, irrigation, fencing, and general maintenance.
  • Operate and maintain farm equipment such as tractors, loaders, mowers, and utility vehicles.
  • Monitor crop health and livestock condition, reporting concerns to farm management.
  • Assist with soil preparation, fertilization, pest control, and weed management.
  • Maintain barns, storage facilities, fences, gates, and other farm infrastructure.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and supervise farm hands and seasonal workers during daily operations.
  • Assign tasks and ensure work is completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Train new employees on farm procedures, equipment use, and safety protocols.
  • Promote a positive, productive, and safety-focused work environment.
  • Communicate daily priorities and operational updates to staff and management.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow and enforce farm safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of chemicals, feed, tools, and machinery.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas.
  • Comply with local agricultural regulations and environmental standards.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in farming, agriculture, ranching, or related field required.
  • Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
  • Ability to operate farm machinery and perform basic equipment maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of agricultural practices and farm safety standards.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and performing manual labor.
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred depending on operation size.
