CNC Machinist I

Location: Menomonie
Pay: $24.00 – $26.00 per hour

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated CNC Machinist I to join a growing advanced manufacturing team. This position is ideal for someone with foundational CNC machining experience who is ready to build skills in programming, setup, and machine operation.

The CNC Machinist I will be responsible for producing quality machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating CNC machines on simple to medium complexity jobs. This role works with guidance and support while learning full-cycle machining processes from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities

CNC Machining & Setup

  • Read and interpret blueprints, specification sheets, and 3D files to determine machining approach

  • Setup and operate CNC mills and/or lathes for production of machined parts

  • Program parts using 2D and/or 3D toolpaths in Surfcam and/or Mastercam

  • Select proper cutting tools based on part geometry and material requirements

  • Assist in determining fixturing methods and setup requirements

  • Calculate speeds, feeds, and depth of cuts based on material and workholding

  • Prepare raw materials for machining and production

  • Load and post programs to machines using network systems

  • Run multiple machines as needed for milling and/or lathe operations

Quality & Production Support

  • Perform dimensional and visual inspections using basic measuring tools

  • Ensure parts meet quality and specification requirements

  • Track labor time and job data in ERP systems

  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas

  • Assist with machine cleaning and preventative maintenance

  • Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with team members to clarify job requirements and resolve issues

  • Communicate effectively regarding production needs or concerns

  • Support a team-oriented and fast-paced manufacturing environment

Required Qualifications

Candidates MUST have:

  • 2-year Machining degree

  • 3+ years of machining experience in a related industry (or equivalent)

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings

  • Basic understanding of CNC machining principles and setup processes

  • Familiarity with Surfcam, Mastercam, or similar CNC software

  • Basic knowledge of speeds, feeds, tooling, and machining materials

  • Experience using basic precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Ability to work with guidance while learning more advanced machining skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-Year Machining Degree preferred

  • Experience with CNC milling and/or lathe operation preferred

  • Exposure to ERP systems or manufacturing software preferred

  • Previous manufacturing or production environment experience preferred

Physical & Work Environment

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift

  • Frequent bending, kneeling, and crouching

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and occasionally heavier with assistance

  • Exposure to machine noise, vibration, fumes, and moving mechanical equipment

  • PPE required and provided as necessary

Additional Information

  • Overtime as needed

  • No travel required

  • Remote work not available

  • This position is subject to ITAR requirements and requires U.S. person status
