Saw Operator — Job Description

16.50/hr 7:30a-4pm

Reports to: Shop Foreman

Location: Dallas, TX

Position Summary

Operate metal-cutting saw to cut sheet and structural steel to specified dimensions for welded cabinet frames and sub-assemblies used in burn-off oven manufacturing.

Essential Duties

• Read cut lists and shop drawings; cut steel stock to specified lengths and dimensions
• Accurately measure and mark material using a tape measure, square, and other hand measuring tools
• Set up and operate band saw
• Verify cut pieces match specifications within tolerance before passing to weld
• Maintain organized material flow — stage cut pieces for the weld station, label as needed
• Perform daily equipment checks; keep blades, coolant, and work area in good condition
• Report material shortages or tooling issues
• Follow all PPE and shop safety requirements

Required Qualifications

• Able to read a tape measure accurately to 1/16"
• Able to read basic shop drawings and cut lists
• Basic math: addition, subtraction, fractions
• Able to lift 50 lbs and stand for full shift
• Reliable attendance

Preferred

• Prior experience operating a metal band saw or chop saw
• Familiarity with structural steel (angle, channel, tube, plate)
