Director of Operations
Express Employment Professionals is currently seeking a Director of Operations on behalf of a nonprofit client.
Salary Range:$67,000 - $70,000
The Director of Operations is responsible for leading the organization’s internal operations and human resources functions, including employee relations, payroll administration, compliance, facilities, safety, technology, project management, procurement, contracts, and operational strategy. This role serves as a strategic partner to the CEO and ensures organizational effectiveness, operational efficiency, and compliance across all departments.
This position provides leadership in HR management, workforce support, operational infrastructure, safety compliance, contract management, and organizational project execution while collaborating closely with executive leadership on budgeting, operational planning, employee relations guidance, and organizational initiatives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Executive Leadership & Organizational Oversight
- Support agency-wide strategic planning and operational priorities
- Ensure strong cross-department communication and accountability
- Support organizational growth, operational efficiency, and strategic initiatives
Human Resources Leadership
- Lead all HR functions including employee relations, investigations, conflict resolution, and performance management
- Oversee payroll administration and HRIS/Paycom management
- Manage workers’ compensation and unemployment claims
- Ensure compliance with employment laws, OSHA standards, and HR best practices
- Lead policy development, handbook updates, and workforce planning initiatives
- Support leadership coaching, employee development, and organizational culture initiatives
- Oversee recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration, and HR compliance tracking
Administrative & Operational Leadership
- Oversee organizational administrative operations
- Supervise administrative and operations support staff
- Ensure efficient office operations and workflow coordination
- Develop and improve operational systems and internal efficiencies
Facilities, Technology & Safety
- Oversee facility operations, maintenance, and vendor relationships
- Manage technology systems and IT vendors
- Ensure organizational safety practices and OSHA compliance
- Coordinate operational responses to facility and safety concerns
Lease Management & Organizational Projects
- Manage leases, renewals, landlord relationships, and operational property matters
- Coordinate facilities planning, expansions, and site evaluations
- Lead renovations, infrastructure improvements, and operational projects
- Develop project timelines and implementation plans
- Partner closely with the CEO on major projects and operational decisions
Procurement & Vendor Management
- Oversee purchasing processes and vendor relationships
- Review and manage contracts and service agreements
- Ensure vendor accountability and cost-effective operational practices
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with finance leadership on budgeting and operational planning
- Collaborate with department leadership on staffing, employee relations, and operational support
- Support organization-wide leadership collaboration and strategic alignment
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Oversee staff scheduling, payroll submission, and time-off approvals
- Support hiring, disciplinary actions, and termination processes
- Conduct performance reviews and provide staff development support
- Participate in on-call coverage as scheduled
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in HR, Business Administration, Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
- Minimum 5 years of nonprofit HR experience required
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience preferred
- Experience supporting organizations with 50+ employees preferred
- Strong knowledge of employment laws, OSHA compliance, payroll processes, HRIS systems, and employee relations
- Experience with benefits administration, vendor coordination, and organizational insurance processes preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- HR Certification preferred
