Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Electrical Estimator with a minimum of five (5) years of public works estimating experience to prepare accurate and competitive electrical cost estimates for government-funded construction projects. This role requires strong knowledge of public bid procedures, prevailing wage requirements, and coordination with project stakeholders to support successful project execution.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed and accurate electrical cost estimates for public works projects, including labor, materials, equipment, overhead, and profit.
  • Analyze plans, specifications, addenda, and bid documents issued by public agencies (city, county, state, school districts, utilities).
  • Perform quantity take-offs for all electrical systems, including power, lighting, low voltage, fire alarm, and related scopes.
  • Solicit, review, and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes to ensure completeness and compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with prevailing wage, bonding requirements, and public works regulations.
  • Prepare and submit timely, competitive bids in accordance with agency deadlines and requirements.
  • Identify project risks, scope gaps, and value engineering opportunities.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field supervisors during bid and pre-construction phases.
  • Maintain organized estimating records and historical cost data for future reference.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, job walks, and bid openings as required.
  • Assist with change order pricing and post-bid clarifications when needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of electrical estimating experience on public works projects.
  • Strong understanding of public works bidding processes, including lowest-responsible-bidder requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of prevailing wage laws, certified payroll, and compliance documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical plans, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Accubid, ConEst, Bluebeam, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously under tight deadlines.
