About the Opportunity

 

Our client, a well-established local nonprofit organization and Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC), is seeking an experienced Controller to join its financial leadership team. This is a high-impact role responsible for overseeing financial operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing strategic financial insight to support the organization’s mission and long-term sustainability.

 

Position Summary

 

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will oversee all accounting operations, including financial reporting, audit coordination, grant compliance, and internal controls. This individual will lead the accounting team and play a key role in budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy within a nonprofit healthcare environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

Partner with executive leadership to develop and execute financial strategies aligned with organizational goals and CCBHC requirements.

Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger management.

Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards.

Lead and coordinate the annual audit process and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Provide financial analysis and reporting to executive leadership and the Board of Directors, including identification of risks and opportunities.

Develop and manage operating and capital budgets, including forecasting and variance analysis.

Present monthly financial reports and insights to leadership and the Board.

Support program leaders with budget monitoring and financial performance analysis.

Oversee grants and contracts, including budget development, compliance, and reporting.

Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff to ensure strong performance and accountability.

Ensure billing operations comply with applicable regulations and produce detailed reporting.

Establish and maintain strong internal controls, policies, and procedures.

Manage external reporting requirements, including annual IRS filings for a 501(c)(3) organization.

Monitor cash flow, expenditures, and financial performance to support sustainability.

Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory bodies, including CARF and state behavioral health requirements.

Advise leadership on financial decisions, contracts, and investments.

Participate in organizational planning and leadership meetings.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

5–7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably within nonprofit or healthcare environments.

Experience with grant management and CCBHC financial compliance strongly preferred.
