Lead HVAC Installation Technician – Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dependable Lead HVAC Installation Technician to oversee and perform residential and/or commercial HVAC system installations. This role leads installation crews, ensures high-quality workmanship, maintains safety standards, and delivers exceptional customer service while meeting project timelines and company standards.

The ideal candidate has strong technical HVAC knowledge, leadership experience, and the ability to train and mentor team members in the field.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise HVAC installation crews on residential and/or commercial projects
  • Install heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems according to manufacturer specifications and local codes
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and installation plans
  • Ensure all installations are completed safely, efficiently, and to company quality standards
  • Coordinate jobsite activities, materials, and equipment needs
  • Troubleshoot installation issues and provide technical guidance to team members
  • Communicate professionally with customers, project managers, and office staff
  • Train and mentor junior technicians and apprentices
  • Perform system startup, testing, and final inspections
  • Maintain accurate job documentation, including installation reports and material usage
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies
  • Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in proper working condition

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 5+ years of HVAC installation experience
  • Prior leadership or crew lead experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, ductwork, and refrigeration principles
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical diagrams
  • EPA Certification required
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in varying weather conditions
  • Familiarity with local mechanical and building codes

Preferred Qualifications

  • NATE Certification
  • Experience with commercial HVAC systems
  • Sheet metal fabrication experience
  • Knowledge of heat pumps, VRF systems, and smart controls
  • Bilingual skills are a plus
