Controller / Director of Finance Operations 

 

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Controller / Director of Finance Operations to oversee the company’s financial management, accounting operations, reporting, budgeting, and internal controls. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and long-term financial planning across the organization.

The ideal candidate combines strong accounting expertise with operational leadership and the ability to support company growth through data-driven financial decision-making.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee all accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and bank reconciliations
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Develop financial reports, dashboards, and operational analyses for executive leadership
  • Monitor cash flow, financial performance, and profitability metrics
  • Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP standards

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Analyze financial trends and provide strategic recommendations
  • Monitor departmental budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Support long-term financial planning and operational growth initiatives

Operational Oversight

  • Improve financial systems, workflows, and internal processes
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets
  • Collaborate with operations teams to improve efficiency and accountability
  • Oversee vendor contracts, payment processes, and expense management
  • Ensure proper implementation and utilization of accounting and property management software systems

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations
  • Coordinate audits, tax filings, and reporting requirements
  • Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, banks, and financial institutions
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and risk management procedures

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting and finance staff
  • Establish performance expectations and accountability measures
  • Create a collaborative and high-performance finance culture
  • Assist with hiring, training, and departmental growth initiatives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • CPA designation preferred
  • 5–10+ years of progressive accounting or finance leadership experience
  • Experience in property management, real estate, hospitality, or multi-entity operations preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting software systems (QuickBooks, Yardi, AppFolio, Sage, or similar platforms)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
