Collection System Worker-in-Training
Position Summary
The Collection System Worker-in-Training is an entry-level position responsible for learning to maintain, inspect, and repair wastewater collection systems and related equipment. Under close supervision, employees gain hands-on experience in system operations, safety procedures, maintenance practices, and equipment operation. This role is ideal for individuals interested in building a career in wastewater collection and utility maintenance.
Essential Duties
- Assist with inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and repair of wastewater collection systems.
- Operate and maintain hydro-cleaning, rodding, and CCTV inspection equipment.
- Respond to service calls, emergency situations, and customer concerns.
- Install and repair sewer mains, lateral connections, manholes, and drainage facilities.
- Set up traffic control and follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Maintain equipment, complete work orders, and keep accurate maintenance records.
- Perform general facility maintenance and assist Plant Operators as needed.
Qualifications
- Maintenance, construction, mechanical, or utility experience is helpful but not required.
- Ability to learn equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and safety practices.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical labor.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and customer service skills.
Working Conditions
Work is performed outdoors and may include exposure to wastewater, confined spaces, traffic, loud noise, chemicals, and heavy equipment. Evening, weekend, and emergency call-out work may be required.
