Millwright Apprentice

Located in Shelton, WA

Salary: $28/hr

Job Summary:

The Sawmill Millwright Apprentice assists in the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of industrial machinery used in sawmill operations. Working under the supervision of experienced millwrights, the apprentice develops hands-on skills in mechanical systems, hydraulics, conveyors, and production equipment to ensure safe and efficient mill performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist journeyman millwrights with maintenance and repair of sawmill equipment (e.g., conveyors, saws, debarkers, chippers).
• Perform routine inspections, lubrication, and preventative maintenance tasks.
• Help diagnose mechanical issues and support troubleshooting efforts.
• Safely use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
• Assist in installing and aligning machinery and equipment.
• Read and interpret basic blueprints, schematics, and manuals.
• Follow all safety policies, procedures, and lockout/tagout protocols.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Participate in training programs and complete apprenticeship requirements.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED (technical training is a plus).
• Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in industrial equipment.
• Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
• Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment (lifting, climbing, standing for long periods).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Enrollment in or acceptance to a millwright apprenticeship program.
• Previous experience in a sawmill, manufacturing, or industrial setting.
• Basic knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, or welding.
