We are seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join our Engineering team and play a key role in developing next-generation motor-control technologies, supporting product lifecycle improvements, and providing high-level technical expertise across the organization.
Position Summary
The Senior Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, development, programming, and validation of control systems used in The Company products and customer applications. This role combines advanced knowledge of motor-control theory, power electronics, and industrial automation with hands-on experience in testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative engineering environment and is comfortable leading complex technical initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize control algorithms for motor-starting, protection, and power-control products.
- Program and integrate PLC, HMI, and embedded control systems used in The Company equipment and customer installations.
- Lead system-level design efforts, including control architecture, hardware selection, and functional specifications.
- Conduct system modeling, simulation, and performance analysis for motor-control applications.
- Support product testing, validation, and certification, including development of test plans and execution of lab testing.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical, control, and communication issues in both R&D and production environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams—Electrical Engineering, Firmware, Manufacturing, Quality, and Field Service—to ensure product reliability and performance.
- Provide technical support to customers, including remote diagnostics and occasional onsite commissioning or troubleshooting.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for existing product lines, including firmware updates, control-logic enhancements, and system optimization.
- Prepare engineering documentation, including schematics, control narratives, test reports, and technical specifications.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in industrial controls, automation, or motor-control engineering.
- Strong proficiency with PLC/HMI programming (Rockwell, Siemens, or equivalent).
- Solid understanding of AC motor theory, power electronics, and motor-control algorithms.
- Experience with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.).
- Ability to read and create electrical schematics and control-system documentation.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in both hardware and software contexts.
Preferred:
- Experience with soft starters, VFDs, or other motor-control products.
- Familiarity with embedded systems, DSP-based control, or real-time control environments.
- Knowledge of UL, CE, and other regulatory standards for industrial equipment.
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink or similar modeling tools.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing or product-development environment.
