GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Operations Technician I performs routine maintenance and operational support tasks across facilities and grounds. This role is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, assisting with rail and vessel-related activities, supporting facility upkeep, and contributing to overall safety and security. The position requires flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of restrooms, warehouses, wharves, docks, offices, and surrounding areas
Assist railcar operators with positioning railcars for loading and unloading
Maintain lawns, roadways, ditches, and grounds
Conduct daily inspections of warehouse facilities
Monitor vessel activities as needed, including after hours, weekends, and holidays
Support facility security efforts
Operate equipment such as lawn maintenance tools and trucks
Assist Facilities personnel and complete additional tasks as assigned by the Operations & Facilities Superintendent

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED required
Experience operating mechanical or lawn equipment preferred
Experience in warehouse or industrial operations preferred
Must have clear background check, drug screen and valid license

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Ability to work effectively with operations staff, facilities personnel, and industry partners
Understanding of basic facility and terminal operations and safety practices
Ability to follow instructions and adhere to operational procedures
Strong work ethic with reliable attendance

WORKING CONDITIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Must be available for on-call duty and emergency response 24/7
Ability to work at unprotected heights
Ability to work in environments with dust, fumes, and gases
Ability to work around moving vehicles, machinery, and heavy equipment
Ability to work in all weather conditions
Ability to lift and carry moderate loads
Must be insurable under the organization’s auto insurance policy
