Position Overview
The Maintenance Leader, reporting to the Production Manager, is a hands-on role responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing plant equipment while also providing day-to-day leadership to the maintenance team.
This position blends technical depth with frontline leadership—ideal for someone who can jump into a panel, fix the issue, and then step back and make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of 1-2 ppl, and coordinate maintenance activities across shifts, including task assignment and follow-ups
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and automation issues
- Perform and oversee preventative maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and uptime
- Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement long-term corrective actions
- Install, commission, modify, and decommission plant equipment as required
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase throughput and reduce downtime
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety standards, including required certifications (e.g., confined space, working at heights)
- Work closely with contractors, vendors, and suppliers on maintenance projects
- Maintain inventory of parts and supplies; coordinate procurement as needed
- Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals
- Fabricate and repair components using welding and machine shop tools
- Prepare reports and track maintenance metrics, trends, and performance
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
Qualifications
- Certified Millwright (433A) or equivalent hands-on experience
- Min of 3–5+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, strong preference in foam fabrication or molded foam industry
- Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and automation systems
- Experience with PLCs and VFDs (programming and troubleshooting)
- Familiarity with automated production systems and process equipment
- Understanding of Canadian electrical and safety standards
- Experience with CMMS or Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) systems
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation
- Forklift and/or scissor lift certification is an asset
- Strong communication skills—can explain technical issues without sounding like a manual
- Solid problem-solving ability and sound decision-making judgment
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and overtime as required
