Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook menu items according to established recipes and standards, ensuring consistency and quality in every dish.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked kitchen environment to facilitate efficient food preparation and service.
  • Uphold food safety and sanitation standards by properly handling food, ensuring correct storage, and adhering to health regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient service during busy periods.
  • Follow portion control guidelines and presentation specifications to ensure dishes are served as intended.
  • Handle food storage and waste management responsibly to minimize waste and promote sustainability.
  • Participate in training and mentoring new kitchen staff, sharing knowledge and skills to enhance team performance.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for all kitchen personnel.

Requirements and skills

Education and Training:

  • High school diploma or GED is required; vocational school or a two-year associate degree in culinary arts is preferred.
  • Completion of training programs in culinary arts, food preparation, and kitchen administration is advantageous.
  • Certifications in safe food handling and specialized cooking techniques are a plus.

Experience:

  • A minimum of one to two years of experience as a line cook, restaurant cook, or prep cook is essential.
  • Proven experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment, demonstrating excellent food preparation and cooking skills.
  • Familiarity with various cooking methods, kitchen equipment, and industry best practices.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, including chopping, butchering, and recipe execution.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively in a busy kitchen setting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, demonstrating effective communication skills.
  • Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and speed in executing tasks.
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift up to 30 pounds as needed.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Basic written and verbal communication skills to follow directions and instructions.
  • A culinary degree or relevant certification is considered an asset.
