Job Description: Cabler/Strander/Rework Line Operator

Basic Function

Sets up, operates, and monitors Cabler, Strander, and Rework Line equipment used in the manufacturing of fiber optic cable.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties in accordance with established safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Read and interpret setup sheets and product codes to determine production requirements, machine settings, and material needs.
  • Set up, operate, and monitor the Planetary Strander for both standard and nonstandard products.
  • Operate respooling equipment in the cabling area to process sub-cables, fillers, and wire.
  • Observe, measure, and inspect products throughout the production process to ensure compliance with setup specifications.
  • Accurately complete all required production and quality documentation.
  • Clean and maintain equipment to prevent contamination.
  • Identify defects and production issues; assist in troubleshooting or notify a supervisor as needed.
  • Operate the rework line as workload permits, including tasks such as:
    • Cleaning cables using approved solvents
    • Printing and stripping cables
    • Respooling cables, wire, and fillers
    • Stripping armor and FRP cables using appropriate tools

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Six months of related experience and/or training preferred

Skills & Abilities:

  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate manufacturing equipment
  • Proficiency in using tools and measuring devices
  • Ability to read and follow instructions and apply quality procedures
  • Basic math and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Experience operating a forklift and hoist preferred

Working Conditions

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs
  • Frequent use of hands for inspection and equipment operation
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Visual acuity required for reading, inspections, and computer use, including color vision
  • Hearing ability sufficient for detecting alarms and communicating with coworkers
  • Work environment includes moderate noise levels and exposure to moving machinery, fumes, and airborne particles
