Basic Function:
Sets up, operates, and monitors 1½” extrusion equipment used for the manufacture of fiber optic cable.


Significant Responsibilities:

I. Performs specific job responsibilities:

  • Reads the set-up sheet and utilizes the file name to determine the product to be manufactured, print specifications, machine adjustments, material requirements, and/or special customer requirements.
  • Sets up, operates, and continuously monitors the 1½” extrusion line for all standard products.
  • Observes, measures, and inspects products at various stages of the production process to ensure adherence to set-up sheet specifications.
  • Applies print to cables using jet printers as required.
  • Accurately completes all documentation related to this role.
  • Cleans equipment as required to prevent contamination.
  • Identifies defects and production issues; assists in resolving problems or notifies a supervisor as needed. Completes non-conformity documentation for defects and product issues.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with established safety procedures and guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Six months of related experience and/or training preferred.

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:

  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate machinery in a production environment.
  • Ability to use tools and measuring devices correctly.
  • Ability to read and follow basic instructions.
  • Understanding of quality procedures and standards.
  • Basic math and legible handwriting skills.
  • Ability to accurately complete required documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Regularly required to stand and walk.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires sufficient vision for reading, computer use, and color differentiation.
  • Requires adequate hearing for detecting alarms and communicating with coworkers.
  • Work environment noise level is moderate.
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles; appropriate personal protective equipment is provided.
