 Cost Accountant – Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Cost Accountant to oversee and enhance our cost accounting operations. This role is responsible for analyzing manufacturing costs, maintaining accurate cost records, supporting budgeting and forecasting processes, as well as monthly general accounting responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing or production environment, advanced analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all cost accounting activities, including standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation
• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual cost reports
• Monitor and review manufacturing costs, labor, overhead, and material usage
• Conduct cost variance analysis and provide actionable recommendations to management
• Maintain and update standard costs in the ERP system
• Support month-end and year-end closing processes related to inventory and cost of goods sold
• Responsible for monthly general ledger accounting as well as account reconciliations
• Responsible for cycle count analysis
• Develop and maintain internal controls related to inventory and cost accounting
• Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and analysis
• Integral in product pricing analysis and updates

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of progressive cost accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
• Strong understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles
• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar)
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

• Experience with standard costing and lean manufacturing environments
• Knowledge of inventory control and supply chain processes
• Data analysis and reporting expertise
• Continuous improvement mindset

 

Work Environment
